We work with a wide range of service users who have different challenges and goals. Some of them are on the path to recovery from substance abuse issues. They may benefit from our programs that offer guidance, referrals and counselling. Others may have more long-term needs, such as those who struggle with mental health conditions. They may require ongoing support from our team of professionals who can help them cope and thrive. In this blog post, we will share some of the stories and successes of our service users and how we tailor our services to meet their individual needs.

Background to Supports

At Kabia House, we understand that our primary service users face many challenges and disadvantages in society, which prevent them from accessing the essential services they need to reintegrate and avoid reoffending. Our role is to help them overcome these barriers and connect them with the resources and opportunities they deserve.

We offer a range of support services, including independent living skills, education and training, employment assistance, debt management, financial literacy, and physical and mental health support. Our goal is to empower our service users to achieve their full potential and contribute positively to society.

About our Supports

At Kabia House, we offer courses that help individuals boost their self-esteem and academic performance. Our courses cover numeracy and literacy skills for those who struggle with traditional education settings. We also have social rehabilitation programs that focus on three key areas:

  • Volunteering, Mentoring, and Befriending: We connect our clients with opportunities to give back to the community, learn from others, and make new friends.
  • Employment Support: We assist our clients in exploring alternative career paths, finding job openings, and preparing for interviews.
  • Homelessness Prevention: We work with our clients to develop strategies to avoid losing their homes, manage debts, and access tenancy support services.

At Kabia House, we believe that everyone deserves a chance to learn, grow, and thrive.

Develop Education, Employment and Training Programs:

At Kabia House, we believe that occupation is the key to empowerment and well-being. Whether it is paid or unpaid, occupation gives our Service Users a sense of purpose, identity and belonging. That is why we offer multiple pathways to employment, tailored to the needs and aspirations of each individual. We also understand that poverty is not only a lack of income but a lack of opportunities and resources. Therefore, we help our Service Users to achieve financial independence and end the culture of dependence, by providing them with skills, knowledge and support. We aim to create sustainable change for our Service Users and their communities.

Volunteering

At Kabia House Services, we believe that volunteering is not only a way of giving back to the community but also a way of enriching ourselves. Volunteering is an intrinsic aspect of our organisation and one of the fundamental aspects of the services we provide. We also focus on peer mentoring by individuals who have experienced the harshness of being homeless. By sharing their stories and insights, they can inspire and support others who are going through similar challenges.

Strategic Contribution

Kabia House Strategies is working to end homelessness and its associated problems, such as substance misuse, alcohol misuse, and mental health issues. Kabia House Strategies believes that providing a roof over service users’ heads is a means to an end, not an end in itself. It is not enough to give people a place to stay; they also need support and guidance to address the root causes of their homelessness and to develop the skills and confidence they need to live independently and contribute to society. That is why Kabia House Strategies offers a holistic approach that includes housing, counselling, education, employment, and community integration. By doing so, Kabia House Strategies aims to reduce the dependency on the welfare system and empower service users to take control of their lives and futures.
